City of Rochester working to plant 23 new trees at East End

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The City of Rochester is working to add 23 new trees and more than 750 plants to the East and Alexander district in downtown.

News10NBC saw crews digging up four old trees on Tuesday to make way for the new greenery, with help from state funding. Since 2023, crews have planted more than 6,000 trees throughout the city. According to Mayor Malik Evans, the goal is to provide more shade to neighborhoods and boost quality of life.

The city’s Forestry Division planted its 6,000th tree in October.
