ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Over 200 people are being laid off as Waterview Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is closing.
In a WARN notice posted by the state Department of Labor, it says 216 workers will be laid off due to the closure. Waterview is being forced to close because inspectors say conditions are so bad they put residents at risk.
The state’s original deadline to close the facility was Sept. 24, but that deadline has been extended multiple times to ensure every resident found a new place to stay. In August, the facility had more than 160 residents who needed a new place.
Now, all residents have found a place, with the majority of them being moved to Lilac Manor on North Goodman Street.
News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry has extensively investigated the conditions at Waterview Heights and been following this story. She recently won a New York Emmy Award in the Health/Medical News category for her coverage.
