ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The World Cup kicks off Thursday and local sports bars are extending their hours to accommodate the games.
Dan Zambito, owner of The Boot Room Pub on North Winton Road, said even if the bar is scheduled to close with games still going, it will stay open until games end or until its cutoff time. Some games start as late as midnight Eastern Standard Time.
“It’s interesting right now but it’s something like if we close at 8 but games start at 10 — we’re staying open regardless,” Zambito said.
Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed that bars and restaurants would be able to stay open until 4 a.m., but News10NBC has not confirmed whether it has passed the legislature.
Zambito said he would love to be able to stay open if possible but is making do as is.
The Boot Room Pub is the first all-encompassing soccer bar in Rochester according to Zambito.
Zambito said the bar will run deals for the entire World Cup, including draft specials on Stella and Michelob Ultra, as well as bucket specials during games.
“If you want to watch a World Cup and you’re not sure if it’s going to be on, come here. It’ll be on,” Zambito said.
Over in the East End Entertainment District, a watch party for Team USA and Paraguay will take place. The New York State Liquor Authority granted a one-time permit so there will be alcohol sales right in the road.
