George Eastman Museum to host listening sessions about new photography policies

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The George Eastman Museum plans to host listening sessions with photographers and community stakeholders about the museum’s recent photography policy changes.

Reservations and a $400 hourly fee are now required for professional photoshoots on the grounds. The museum says the new policies will help protect and maintain the museum gardens and grounds, as it has become a popular place for photographing special occasions.

The museum says on its website, it has heard the concerns and questions about the new policies, and will be hosting these sessions to support the continued conversation and get feedback from the community.

News10NBC’s Adelisa Badžić spoke with local photographers about the policy changes. Some told her they thought the fee was too high.

At the listening sessions, the museum says it plans to share key themes and insights from them with the rest of the community after review.

“We recognize the important role photographers have played in documenting milestones, celebrations, artistic expression, and memories on Museum grounds for generations,” the museum said on its website. “Their work has helped tell the story of the George Eastman Museum and strengthened our connection to the community.”
