Seneca Park Zoo closed for remainder of Monday due to tree limb falling on habitat

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Seneca Park Zoo will be closed for the rest of Monday after zoo officials say a tree limb fell onto a baboon habitat.

It happened at around 1 p.m. Monday. Zoo officials say the tree damaged part of the protective netting at the top of the exhibit.

Out of caution, a hold-in-place order was issued for the north end of the zoo immediately and all other guests were evacuated. Shortly after the order, the zoo started escorting any remaining guests to the exit.

The zoo says all animal containment measures stayed in place, and no animals were outside their habitats. The zoo also says law enforcement responded to help with crowd management.

Zoo staff and officials are assessing the situation. Check back later for any updates as News10NBC learns more.
