Israelis Warned To Conceal Jewish Symbols Ahead of Pro-Palestinian ‘Day of Rage’ Protests in Greece

Israel’s Foreign Ministry warned Israelis in Greece on Sunday to conceal Jewish symbols and avoid large gatherings as anti-Israel demonstrations were planned at 91 locations across the country as part of a “National Day of Action for Palestine,” according to Maariv.
The protests are scheduled in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos and other islands, according to Greek media reports and protest organizers. Groups promoting the demonstrations include BDS Greece, March to Gaza Greece and the Palestinian community in Greece.
Organizers are calling for an arms embargo and sanctions against Israel, the reinstatement of visa requirements for Israelis and screening of Israeli soldiers and reservists entering Greece on suspicion of alleged war crimes.
In Athens, the main demonstration is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Monastiraki Square, with additional protests planned at Victoria Square, Haidari, Porto Rafti and Palaia Fokaia. A demonstration near the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos in Thessaloniki is set for 7:30 p.m.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry advised Israelis to exercise increased caution and stay away from the demonstrations.
“On Sunday, August 9, 2026, demonstrations and protest rallies are expected to take place at dozens of locations throughout Greece,” the ministry said.
“In light of the expected scale of the protests and the possibility of large gatherings and disturbances, the Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens staying in Greece exercise increased vigilance, stay away from demonstrations and gatherings and avoid any friction or confrontation with protesters.
“It is recommended to keep Israeli and Jewish symbols out of sight and avoid posting your real-time location on social media. Follow announcements from local authorities and the media, stay updated on developments and obey instructions from local security forces.”
The demonstrations come as Israel and Greece maintain close strategic relations while pro-Palestinian groups remain active in the country.
Organizers are seeking to repeat nationwide protests held last summer, when demonstrations were staged in cities and on islands across Greece.
