ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after Rochester Police say they found him with a 9mm “ghost gun.”
Police say at around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night, they conducted a traffic stop on Lyell Avenue for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the stop, police say they learned the driver, a 53-year-old man, had a suspended license.
Police say as the investigation continued, they found the ghost gun in the 16 year old’s waistband, who was the passenger. He was then taken into custody.
The driver was issued an appearance ticket for aggravated unlicensed operator and vehicle and traffic law violations.
The 16-year-old boy was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees, and no seat belt.
What is a ghost gun?
The term ghost gun is used to describe firearms not properly registered or trackable. According to Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies, this makes it hard for law enforcement to investigate when ghost guns are used in a crime.
