Syracuse soccer standout Miles Robinson set to represent Team USA at the World Cup

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — As Team USA prepares for the World Cup, New Yorkers can cheer on number 12, Miles Robinson.

Originally from Massachusetts, Robinson was an all-time great at Syracuse from 2015 to 2016. Along the way, he’s earned his stars and stripes.

“When he came on campus in 2015, I wasn’t thinking he was a World Cup star in that moment,” said Ian McIntyre, Robinson’s head coach at Syracuse. “But he hit the ground running.”

In a real-life American dream outcome, Robinson went from a college star to a center back for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

“Everything he’s received or he’s earned,” McIntyre said. “He’s played with a chip on his shoulder to prove that he’s worthy of this opportunity.”

Mat Mlodzinski, News10NBC: “Where do you see Miles potentially fitting? Again, you’re not the coach, but what do you see his role maybe being?

McIntyre: “He’s a player that can cover ground and in those transitional moments can be very impactful. Taking on and matching up against the best attacking players in the league,” McIntyre said. “He does that at the international level as well. He takes it personally.”

But his biggest strength may be a sheer will to win, and not even a World Cup will be too big of a stage.

“Doesn’t matter how big the game is,” McIntyre said. “He’s the same guy. He’s down to earth. He’s unflappable. He’s the kind of guy that you want in these big moments when it comes to international competition.”

He scored the golden goal in the 2021 Gold Cup Championship. Five years later, that’s just the type of playmaker this squad needs.
