Security guard shoots and kills armed man

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 31-year-old man was shot and killed by a security officer early Saturday morning after he pointed a gun at the security guard outside a bar on Clifford Avenue.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Security had removed the man from the bar after a disturbance inside, according to Rochester police.

After leaving, the man went to a parked car and got a handgun. He then ran back toward the bar holding the gun, police said.

Security confronted him at the entrance and tried to stop him from going back inside. The man ignored multiple verbal commands, pointed the gun at the security officer and then opened the entrance door, police said.

The security officer, who legally possessed his handgun, fired multiple rounds and killed him.

It does not appear the man legally possessed his handgun, police said. No charges have been filed. The evidence will be presented to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
