RPO celebrates nation’s 250th anniversary with show at Parcel 5, more outdoor shows planned

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated the nation’s 250th anniversary on Friday night with a free, outdoor concert in downtown Rochester.

The orchestra performed film scores and the works of American composers at Parcel 5. RPO Under the Stars got underway at 8 p.m. with a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. The orchestra then performed scores from “Appalachian Spring,” “Forrest Gump,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and more. People brought lawn chairs and blankets to relax while listening to the music.

The RPO has more outdoor shows planned for July across the region, including the free City of Rochester Parks series. Here’s the rest of the schedule:

  • Genesee Country Village & Museum: July 11 from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • City of Rochester Parks Series (Maplewood Rose Garden): July 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Bristol Mountain: July 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • SUNY Geneseo: July 18 from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
  • City of Rochester Parks Series (Barrington Street Park): July 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Temple B’rith Kodesh: July 21 from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Arrowhead Park in Inlet: July 24 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
  • City of Rochester Parks Series (International Plaza): July 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
