ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Gilda’s Club Rochester hosted the annual Heroes Ball at the Hyatt Regency.
The Heroes Ball is a fundraising gala for Cancer Support Community and highlights everyday community heroes who help people affected by cancer live their best life.
Friday night’s keynote speaker was Pro Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas.
“When someone you love hears the words, ‘you have cancer,’ everything changes,” Thomas said.
Thomas said his son-in-law is currently dealing with cancer, and his mother died from breast cancer.
“Sometimes you don’t need somebody to fix anything. You just need somebody who gets it,” Thomas said.
All proceeds from the Heroes Ball stay in Rochester to benefit cancer patients and their families.
