First Alert Weather: Coldest morning in six months leads to another nice afternoon

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The temperature in Rochester dropped to 32 degrees this morning, marking the first freeze of the season and the coldest morning since April 21st. Do not forget the winter jacket! But you won’t need it later. Yet again skies will be fair, winds will be light, and afternoon temps will be comfortable peaking in the upper 50s/low 60s.

Tonight will be another cold one but not AS cold with lows in the mid 30s south to the upper 30s/low 40s north. It will be cloudier at times tomorrow and slightly breezy with north winds gusting up to 15-20 MPH. Afternoon temperatures will be a repeat of today, and there is a SMALL chance of spotty showers in the afternoon, especially south, but emphasis on the word “small”.

Friday starts chilly once again and sees temps rise to the mid 50s with sunny skies… Then this weekend will be absolutely perfect for outdoor fall activities with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s Saturday and Sunday respectively. Some areas seeing peak foliage during this time like Watkins Glen will get near 70. Plan accordingly as there are bound to be plenty of visitors.

If we get through Sunday without any rain, which is likely, it will be the longest dry stretch in Rochester of the year so far. A cold front brings our next chance of rain Tuesday morning, but coverage and intensity looks sparse and weak… Check back in for updates on that.
