ALBANY, N.Y. — Homeowners in Genesee, Wyoming, and some other Western New York counties are eligible for loans to help them recover from flooding and tornado damage caused by the Sept. 3 storms.
In total, the storms led to eight confirmed tornadoes across the region, including one in Webster that touched down on Salt Road and toppled trees in a backyard. There were also tornadoes confirmed by the National Weather Service in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, and Wayne counties.
The storms also led to downed trees and power lines, flooded roads, large hail, and tens of thousands of power outages. News10NBC stayed on the air for hours tracking the storms. See our coverage of the aftermath here.
Who’s eligible?
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office says it secured a Physical Disaster Declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration, which makes some homeowners eligible for a low-interest disaster loan. - Homeowners: up to $500,000 to repair their primary residence.
- Homeowners and renters: up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.
- Business owners: up to $2 million for the replacement of real property, inventories, machinery, equipment and other physical losses.
