Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputy arrested on rape charges involving a minor

 

AUBURN, N.Y. — On Friday, New York State Police said they’re investigating a Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputy who’s accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor.

Police say Hunter R. Lawrence of the Town of Auburn, 25, was arrested and charged. He has since been placed on administrative leave.

Investigators reported that Lawrence had multiple sexual encounters with someone under the age of 17. The victim was at different ages across their meetings, leading to multiple charges, police added.

There are no allegations that Lawrence met with the victim while on duty, police also mentioned.

He was charged with two counts of rape in the second degree, two counts of rape in the third degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was taken to Cortland County Jail for arraignment, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
