ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Officers responded to two separate shootings early Sunday morning that left a total of seven people shot and one person stabbed in downtown Rochester.
Police heard multiple gunshots around 12:30 a.m. on July 5 from a parking lot on East Ave. and then immediately near E. Broad St. Officers flooded both areas as the shots were fired.
On E. Broad St., officers found three shooting victims and one stabbing victim. The victims ranged in ages from 12 to 18 years old. On East Ave., officers found four shooting victims ages 17, 17, 18 and 40 years old. All victims are expected to survive.
Detectives are still determining whether the incidents are related. More than 50 gunshots were fired from multiple weapons in both incidents combined.
During the immediate response, officers stopped two vehicles — one on East Ave. and one on E. Broad St. Officers recovered two loaded handguns from the East Ave. vehicle stop, and two male suspects are being charged with criminal possession of a weapon. A flatbed truck towed away the black car around 5 a.m.
Officers recovered one loaded handgun with an extended magazine from the E. Broad St. stop. A 17-year-old male is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
The majority of the shooting victims appear to be unintended targets, police said.
In some video from the scenes, fireworks could still be heard and seen going off.
New York State Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and Greece police were seen.
