Stormy conditions on Independence Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC captured some 4th of July sights and sounds during the rainy afternoon.

Neighbors come together on East Main Street to celebrate with a barbecue

Rain didn’t stop a group of friends and neighbors on East Main Street from celebrating the Fourth of July outdoors.

Grills were going with smoke coming from the coals. Neighbors said it had been so hot the last few days that the rain felt good and it wasn’t going to stop them from grilling.

One man said this is one way he likes to give back to the community. “It’s always good, you know, we sit here, we barbecue. We feed the community, you know, help everybody in the community out. Everybody can come eat with us. So, that’s good, you know, we give back a little,” said Jerry Clay, who lives in Rochester.

Neighbors relaxed while the food was cooking and spent time with their kids and pets.

Rain impacts 4th of July celebration at Irondequoit Town Hall

Irondequoit held a 4th of July celebration at the town hall that runs until 11 p.m.

Earlier in the afternoon, rain poured on people who came to take part in the festivities. Some came prepared with umbrellas and others got soaked.

Several vendors at the celebration took shelter under their tents as visitors continued browsing.

A couple of visitors said the rain didn’t bother them.

“It’s Rochester weather. Wait five minutes; it’ll change,” said David Muratore. “Unless they cancel it, and we haven’t heard so far,” Ellen Muratore added.

The rain didn’t bother many other visitors either as they waited in line with their umbrellas at food stands.

Car stalls on North Winton Road after heavy Independence Day rain

Firefighters responded to North Winton Road after a car stalled in the road following heavy rain.

A fire truck was parked with water streaming down the road after the rain passed through the area. The rain also left some tree debris on the sidewalks in the area.

Around Tryon Park, water flooded the road as one man stood working in it. The depth of the water was well past his ankles.
