Yellow Alert: How the city is working to keep people safe from Thursday’s humidity

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Watch out for humidity on Thursday that could make it feel like the mid-90s outside. The actual temperature could reach 87 degrees. Watch News10NBC TODAY now through 7 a.m. live here as we track the humidity.

Any time temperatures are forecasted to reach 85 degrees or hotter, the City of Rochester issues a Cool Sweep. That means the city offers free access to cooling resources through its R-Centers, spray parks, and libraries. Here’s where you can go to cool off:

The following R-Centers will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays

  • Adams St., 85 Adams St.        
  • Avenue D, 200 Avenue D       
  • Carter St., 500 Carter St.        
  • David F. Gantt, 700 North St.       
  • Edgerton, 41 Backus St.       
  • Frederick Douglass, 999 South Ave.        
  • Trenton and Pamela Jackson, 485 N. Clinton Ave.       
  • Willie Walker Lightfoot, 271 Flint St.       
  • Rochester Community Sports Complex, 460 Oak St. (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) 

The following spray parks will be open every day between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.

  • Carter Street R-Center, 500 Carter St. 
  • Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St. 
  • David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St. 
  • Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave. 
  • Roxie Ann Sinkler R-Center, 75 Grover St. 
  • Hope R-Center, 524 Campbell St. 
  • Humboldt R-Center, 1045 Atlantic Ave. 

The following spray features will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Fourth and Peck Playground, Corner of Fourth and Peck Streets 
  • Troup Street Park, Troup Street and Van Auker Street (between Reynolds Street and Ford Street)
