Wayne County farm worker detained by ICE ordered to be returned to WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dolores Bustamante, a grandmother and farm worker from Wayne County, has been ordered to be returned to Western New York to appear in federal court after being detained by ICE.

News10NBC was outside the federal courthouse in Buffalo last week when ICE detained Bustamante during a routine check-in. Immigration officials then transferred her more than 1,000 miles away to a correctional facility in Louisiana.

Bustamante did not have a criminal record but was given a final order of removal after exhausting her appeals for asylum. We spoke with her as she headed into the courthouse on April 22.

“But I’m here because I’m trying to do things the right way,” Bustamante said through a translator.

Immigration officials have until May 12 to return Bustamante to the region. She’s due in court on May 26.
