WAYNE COUNTY, N.Y. — News10NBC has an update on the Wayne County farm worker who was detained by ICE during a routine check-in last week.
Dolores Bustamante is being held in Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana. That’s almost 1,300 miles away from Wayne County.
Louisiana has become a busy ICE deportation hub. Bustamante will likely be deported to Mexico.
That’s where she escaped domestic violence with her daughter 26 years ago. Her lawyer hopes to pause deportation proceedings until her daughter is eligible to become a citizen in August.
On Saturday, a few days after Bustamante was detained, about 150 people rallied for her release. Her family called her on the phone so she could speak to the crowd.
