Two corrections officers stabbed by inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy

MARCY, N.Y. — Two correction officers were injured after officials say an inmate attacked staff with a homemade weapon at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy.

News10NBC’s Syracuse affiliate reports that it happened on May 29 during a wellness check.

The Correction Officers’ Union said an officer noticed an inmate had covered his cell window with a towel. When staff entered the cell, they say the inmate charged and stabbed at staff with a sharpened plastic weapon.

One officer was stabbed in the forearm and another in the knee, according to the union. Both are expected to recover.

The inmate was restrained and later transferred to Auburn Correctional facility.

Mid-State is the same facility where inmate Messiah Nantwi was beaten to death. Ten former officers were indicted in Nantwi’s death.

This facility is located across the street from Marcy Correctional Facility, the prison where Robert Brooks was beaten to death.
