ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity is set to dedicate its 350th home on Friday afternoon and launch a new campaign to promote affordable homeownership.

The nonprofit, which builds or repairs homes, will bring its national “Let’s Open the Door” campaign to the Rochester area. The campaign invites communities to help create more safe, stable housing.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes across all 50 states and over 70 countries. News10NBC’s Kristi Blake checked out the 350th home on Sidney Street in Rochester on Friday morning. The home dedication will feature a temporary public art installation with the theme of hope. You can learn more about Habitat for Humanity’s mission here.

In-depth on housing shortage in Rochester

Rochester ranks as the toughest home-buying market in the country, according to a new analysis by Bankrate. One reason is a lack of supply. Homebuilders are flocking to areas of the country with booming job growth, and Rochester is not one of them.

News10NBC has done several recent stories on how leaders in the area are aiming to address the housing shortage. Recently, Rochester leaders cut the ribbon on affordable housing at a once-deteriorating building at the corner of East Main Street and North Clinton Avenue. In addition, Rochester has gotten $20 million in state funding to demolish the former psychiatric center on Elmwood Avenue and replace it with 400 to 500 housing units.
