YATES COUNTY, N.Y. — A man has been sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison after pleading guilty to coercing a child in Yates County to send him sexual images.
The Yates County District Attorney’s Office says Tyler Castner, 20, was living in Tennessee at the time, but is originally from Yates County. He pleaded guilty to promoting a sexual performance by a child and will need to register as a sex offender in New York State.
Investigators say he messaged the child asking for the images and also sent sexual videos and images of himself. He was arrested after a grand jury indicted him and police extradited him to New York State. He will serve his sentence at a New York correctional facility.
The DA’s office is asking parents to have conversations with their children about online safety and monitor their online activity. You can find online safety resources on the NetSmartz website.
