LYONS, N.Y. — A Michigan man possibly linked to a woman’s death in Franklin County was found dead in a truck following a State Police chase that ended on State Route 14 in Lyons Tuesday.
How it started
It all started when troopers assigned to Troop B say they found 50-year-old Melissa Pelc-Lohr dead at a home on South Woods Road in Moira, Franklin County, at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
As they investigated, State Police say they identified a vehicle potentially related to the death. At about 10:30 a.m., troopers assigned to Troop E found the red 2009 Silverado, which matched the description, in the town of Lyons.
State Police, along with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, Norman Lohr, of Michigan, wouldn’t stop, leading to a pursuit.
The chase
Deputies used tire deflation devices, and the truck left Route 14. Troopers and deputies commanded Lohr to get out of the vehicle, to no avail, and the Sheriff’s Office approached the Silverado with an armored vehicle.
According to troopers, the driver was found dead inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Viewer video
A viewer recorded video showing a SWAT truck driving onto a field with several deputy and police cars. The truck stopped in front of a red pickup parked further away, and about five seconds later, two flash bangs were thrown at the truck. SWAT team members moved in as deputies and officers stayed by their cars
The circumstances surrounding both deaths remain under investigation. Troopers are processing the scene in Moira and executing search warrants, The Sheriff’s Office continues to assist NYSP with the investigation. Troopers say there was no threat to the public.
