Livingston County officials still monitoring mulch fire burning in Mount Morris

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. — The Livingston County Office of Emergency Management says it’s still monitoring a mulch fire that’s burning in a wooded area in Mount Morris.

News10NBC captured video of the fire on Wednesday just before midnight near Begole Road. The video shows bright flames and smoke coming from behind a row of trees. We returned to the area on Thursday morning and saw that the fire was still burning.

The emergency management office said multiple fire departments responded to the fire around 10:20 p.m., and the fire was contained to a mulch pile on an agricultural site.

According to the office, crews decided not to intervene for the safety of first responders and consulted with the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation, which also decided it was best not to intervene. Local fire departments are continuing to monitor the fire with the help of the DEC. County officials say crews will adjust their strategies as the situation warrants. Check back for updates.
