IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Irondequoit is getting a new playground on the town campus.
Town officials broke ground on an inclusive backyard play area that will cover 7,000 square feet. The project is funded by the state.
“This is an exciting day for the Town of Irondequoit,” said Supervisor John Perticone. “We are providing a new amenity on our campus for our families, their children and grandchildren – one that we can share with neighboring communities. I’d like to recognize the residents of Irondequoit who played a vital role in the reimagination of this area by participating in a survey back in 2021. That survey laid the groundwork for the development of the Backyard and this beautiful new play area.”
“Today, I joined Assemblywoman Sarah Clark in securing a total of $800,000 for the Backyard Playground in the Town of Irondequoit. When we create inclusive, accessible spaces for children and families in our community, we help inspire creativity and play for our neighbors for years to come,” said Senator Samra Brouk (SD-55).

The playground will feature New York’s only 12-foot tower that is fully accessible and fenced. The play area will also include ramps, climbers, sensory panels, and rubber surfacing.
Construction is hoped to be completed by the spring.
