ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local law enforcement and Texas Roadhouse restaurants teamed up on Thursday night to raise money for Special Olympics programs in New York State.
Special Olympics athletes and Rochester Police officers served as guest waiters at the Texas Roadhouse on West Ridge Road in Greece to connect with the community. People had a chance to tip the waiters, with all the money going toward the Special Olympics.
Last year, “Tip a Cop Night” at the Greece Texas Roadhouse raised more than $2,000 for the cause. RPD Cap. Sam Lucyshyn spoke about why he decided to take part.

“The Special Olympics motto is ‘let me win and if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.’ And I can tell you that the feeling of joy and accomplishment is shared between the athletes and law enforcement,” he said.
Across the state, 22 Texas Roadhouse locations took part in the fundraiser. Special Olympics New York is considered the largest state chapter in the country, serving more than 48,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities with training, competition, and health screenings. All programs are offered at no cost to athletes or their families. You can donate to support the Special Olympics and learn about upcoming competitions here.
