RIDGEWAY, N.Y. — A man in a wheelchair has died in a house fire in Orleans County on Thursday, according to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.
The house fire was on Presbyterian Street in the Town of Ridgeway, and deputies say the home was destroyed.
A neighbor tried to get the man out and received severe burns in the attempted rescue, and deputies told us Mercy Flight was at the scene for the neighbor.
The sheriff’s office also said another person escaped the house and was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The road will be closed most of the night as the investigation continues.
