HILTON, N.Y. — Hilton football is one of the best in our area this year, and senior quarterback Matt Kosiorek has been named the latest News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Coach Rich Lipani said his first impression of Kosiorek was that he knew what he was doing.
“He’s very smart, very hard working, picks things up, coachable,” Lipani said.
That was three years ago when Lupani met Kosiorek. Now as a senior, things really haven’t changed.
“I feel like my biggest strength is my leadership, leading by example and just kind of getting guys together and fighting and pushing. And I think that’s probably my biggest strength,” Kosiorek said.
The Cadets are undefeated at 5-0, with Kosiorek scoring 14 touchdowns this year, including a game with four passing touchdowns.
“The long ball was there. So glad I could we could put some points on the board and get the win,” Kosiorek said.
Lipani said Kosiorek ‘s mobility has impressed him the most.
“He’s running the ball like he’s a fullback. He’s running like he’s been shot out of a cannon,” Lipani said.
But if you ask Kosiorek, the best part of this team has nothing to do with him.
“I look in front of me, I got a dog, right guard, left guard dog, and then right tackle, left tackle, dog, tight ends. So all the credit goes to them,” Kosiorek said.
That’s the kind of leadership he exudes, just a desire to be with his guys.
“It’s awesome. I mean, our chemistry is great. We all are best friends off the field. And it’s just a great feeling knowing that the guys next to you are fighting for you,” Kosiorek said.
Kosiorek has not selected a college yet but hopes to major in business. The Cadets will host Pittsford on Friday.
