ROCHESTER, N.Y. – With the Fourth of July approaching, many are looking for the best deals on barbecue essentials.

News10NBC’s Tom Kowalski investigated where shoppers can save the most on summer staples like watermelon, hot dogs, and buns.

Kowalski first visited Wegmans on East Avenue. He found Ball Park hot dogs priced at $2.79 with the shoppers club ($4 without it), buns for $1.50, and watermelon for a little over $4.

The total cost at Wegmans was $8.45.

At Aldi, Kowalski picked up watermelon for just under $4, buns for $1.20, and hot dogs for 89 cents.

“I ended up spending just $6.10,” said Kowalski.

Finally, Kowalski went to Tops, where watermelon was $5.39, buns were $2.19, and Oscar Meyer hot dogs were $4.

“All in all, at Tops, I spent $11.57,” said Kowalski. “That’s more expensive than Wegmans and almost twice as expensive as Aldi’s.”

For those looking to save on their Fourth of July barbecue, Aldi offered the most affordable options.
