ROCHESTER, N.Y. — NBA player and Rochester native Thomas Bryant is bringing his basketball camp back to his hometown.
Bryant is partnering with the YMCA of Greater Rochester and the City of Rochester, both of which played integral parts in his journey to the NBA.
“Hosting my camp in my hometown is always exciting,” Bryant said. “I would spend every day playing basketball at the Y and in R-Centers, hours on hours of just practicing while my mom worked.”
This year’s camp will be hosted at Vertus Charter School on Saturday, August. 8. It’s free and open to youth ages 9-18, with two sessions available based on age.
The first session runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ages 9-13. The second session runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 14-18.
“I’m excited to continue to work with kids like me, and partner with the Y and the City to impact the lives of kids and teens in my hometown,” Bryant said.
Those attending the camp will work alongside Bryant and volunteer coaches to learn the fundamentals of basketball including ball handling, passing and shooting to improve their game.
Eric Rose, director of community athletics for the City of Rochester, said he has known Bryant since he was in elementary school.
“I am extremely proud of all his professional and personal accomplishments,” Rose said. “But I am most proud of the upstanding young man he has become.”
Every player at camp will get a T-shirt, snacks, and other giveaways.
