BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Local grocery stores are seeing a surge of last minute shoppers ahead of Thanksgiving. News10NBC visited R’s Market in Brighton to see how local grocers are preparing for the holiday.
Carrie Cocca, owner of R’s Market, said it was a busy day as customers rushed to complete their holiday shopping. “We had a really fast start this morning. A lot of people rushing in to get their stuff. And then we sort of died down, and now we’re just swinging into the final finish at 6 p.m.,” Cocca said.
Cocca recommended their homemade sausage and stuffed mushrooms for those looking to bring a taste of Rochester to their Thanksgiving gatherings.
At Big M Supermarket in Gates, the turkey supply was running low as shoppers prepared for the holiday. Erin Komosinski, a shopper, said, “[I’m] heading to Buffalo, to my in-laws house. I’m bringing pies. That’s my contribution.”
Greg Putone of Wilshire Catering expressed gratitude for recent business but was looking forward to a day off. “It’s been fantastic the last three weeks, we’ve probably done about 2,500 turkey dinners in the last three weeks,” Putone said. He added, “As a matter of fact, I probably won’t be eating turkey tomorrow. I was just telling them that I’m sick of turkey. Basically because of the amount of dinners that we’ve done.”
For those still needing to shop on Thanksgiving, Big M will be open until 1 p.m. Wegmans and Tops will remain open until 4 p.m. However, R’s Market will be closed for the holiday.
