As tensions escalate with missiles flying over Iran, the impact on oil prices is being felt at the pump. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for 20% of the world’s oil supply, is at the center of this issue. Iranian leaders have threatened to target tankers passing through.
“Oil prices are jumping and of course that’s leading consumers to see higher gas prices, higher diesel prices, higher jet fuel prices,” said petroleum expert Patrick De Haan. “That will be the status quo moving forward will be a bit of volatility along with higher prices.”
News10NBC has been monitoring gas prices at a downtown station. On Tuesday, prices were $3.05 per gallon, up from $3.01 on Monday, and remained unchanged on Wednesday. However, today saw a significant jump to $3.39 per gallon, resulting in a 38-cent increase over four days.
