ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester General Hospital went into lockdown on Tuesday morning after a patient in the emergency department brought in by police escaped, the hospital confirmed.
The hospital went into lockdown for nearly two hours, starting around 2:15 a.m. During that time, no one was allowed to leave or enter the hospital.
RGH says the emergency department diverted ambulances to other local hospitals. According to RGH, patients who needed emergency care were still able to come and no procedures were impacted.
Rochester Police officers and RGH security swept the hospital to make sure everyone was safe. News10NBC’s photojournalist saw multiple RPD cruisers stationed outside the hospital.
RGH confirmed that all operations have returned to normal. We’ve reached out to RPD to learn if the patient was caught.
