Power back on after transformer fire in Brighton causes hundreds to lose power

BRIGHTON, N.Y. — The lights are back for hundreds of RG&E customers who lost power on Wednesday morning after a transformer caught fire in Brighton.

News10NBC saw utility crews making repairs on French Road around 5:30 a.m., but that scene has since cleared and the road has reopened. The Brighton Fire Department confirmed that crews were working to repair a transformer.

At one point, over 1,200 homes or businesses, mostly in Brighton, were without power. Now, RG&E’s power outage tracker doesn’t show any outages. We have reached out to RG&E to learn what caused the fire. Check back for updates.
