Pittsford highway workers rally for higher pay as first union contract talks continue

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The labor community gathered outside Pittsford Town Hall on Tuesday evening to support highway workers.

AFSCME union leaders said Pittsford highway workers are among the lowest paid public works employees in the county.

They are working on negotiating the first union contract in Pittsford’s history.

The town said it is negotiating in good faith and is closer than ever on wages and increases. Here is the full statement from the town sent to News10NBC:

According to the town, over the past five years, town employees have received a 17.5% wage increase.

Under the town supervisor’s proposed budget for 2027, wages would increase another 3.4%, bringing hourly wages up to about $34 to $46 an hour depending on the position.

The next negotiation session is scheduled for Nov. 10.

The rally highlighted ongoing efforts to improve pay and working conditions for Pittsford highway workers.
