CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — One of the seven suspects accused of killing and torturing Sam Nordquist has pleaded guilty to her charges.
Emily Motyka pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree and kidnapping in the second degree. According to the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, Motyka waived her right to appeal as part of the plea agreement. She will stay in jail pending sentencing and won’t be eligible for release on bail.
Investigators say Nordquist was tortured and killed at Patty’s Lodge. Nordquist’s family said he traveled to Canandaigua to meet Arzuaga, his girlfriend, and they got suspicious after losing contact with him.
All seven suspects are charged with first and second degree murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy. In addition, one of the suspects, Precious Arzuaga, is charged with coercion after the indictment alleged that she forced two children, 7 and 12, to engage in torturing Nordquist.
Each of them will get separate trials, the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office confirmed. Arzuaga will be the first to be tried.
Motyka faces a prison sentencing ranging from 15 years to life up to a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates as News10NBC learns more.
