LYONS, N.Y. — New York State Police arrested a Rochester man accused of using stolen credit card information to buy thousands of dollars in gift cards at a Wayne County drug store.
Jerome D. Hightower, 27, was arrested July 26 following an investigation into fraudulent purchases at Kinney Drugs in the Village of Lyons. Troopers say Hightower went into the store on July 21 and bought 15 Visa gift cards worth $7,619.25 with stolen credit card information.
Store employees were later notified by loss prevention that the transactions were fraudulent.
Troopers also learned Hightower tried to do the same thing at the same store on July 11, but the transaction was declined. On July 26, Troopers responded to Kinney Drugs after receiving a report that Hightower came back again.
When Troopers were interviewing him, they say he tried to identify himself with a different name and birthday. Employees identified him, and he was arrested.
Hightower was charged with the following:
- Attempted grand larceny
- Petit larceny
- False personation
He was released from jail on his own recognizance and is scheduled to reappear in Lyons Town Court in August. Following his arraignment, Hightower was turned over to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on an active warrant.
The investigation is ongoing.
