ROCHESTER, N.Y. — When decluttering, you expect certain items to surface: Old ornaments, pictures of an ex-boyfriend, that one cord you’ve been trying to find for months. The list goes on.
When a Waterloo man decided to clean out his garage last year, he found something extraordinary. And he planned to throw it away.
Jason Hurdle found a box full of papers in a crawl space and tossed it to the side with plans of discarding it. But when a gust of wind blew open the documents to reveal “Secret” and “Confidential,” he had to take a look.
Hurdle found over 300 pages of handwritten documentation of American POWs from World War II.
We sat down with him for this week’s episode of News10: Beyond The Headlines. We dove into the harrowing details of what the soldiers endured, the evidence of war crimes, where the documents live now, and more.
