GREECE, N.Y. — A 47-year-old is in custody after resisting arrest Monday night and escaping Rochester General Hospital early Tuesday morning.
Greece Police say on Monday at around 7:18 p.m., they did a welfare check on 47-year-old Steven Ploof on Squareview Lane, who they say was also wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Orleans County.
When officers went up to Ploof, they say he refused their commands to leave his car, tried to hit officers with the car, and tried to make a spray can into a makeshift torch and pointed it towards officers.
The officers say they then broke Ploof’s car window and tried to pepper spray him to try and take him into custody. They say Ploof then left the car armed with a large knife and then fled on foot into a wooded area near Route 390 and Maiden Lane.
Officers say they established a perimeter, and then found Ploof, who still refused their commands. They say they then tased Ploof, and took him into custody. He was brought to RGH for evaluation.
Early morning Tuesday, police say hospital security reported that Ploof left the hospital. He was found by police at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and taken back into custody.

Ploof was charged with the following:
- Three counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree.
- Two counts of menacing a police officer.
- Obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.
- Resisting arrest.
- Attempted aggravated assault on a police officer.
- Escape in the second degree.
Ploof was brought back to RGH for treatment. He will be arraigned after being released from RGH.
