ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is accused of threatening two teenagers with a knife at the Wyndham Hotel on State Street, which has been vacant since June.
Rochester Police responded to the hotel around 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday for the report of a possible stabbing. Officers searched the building and didn’t find any stab victims, but say they did find three people who had entered.
Police say one of those people, a 28-year-old man from Rochester, had threatened the other two, ages 17 and 18. He’s charged with menacing.
News10NBC’s photojournalist saw officers surround the hotel and take multiple people out in handcuffs. Police say all three people were detained, but they released the two teens after determining that they were victims.
Why is the hotel vacant?
The Wyndham Hotel has been vacant ever since the City of Rochester ordered it to close over 13 fire and 10 building code violations. All people staying at the building were asked to leave.
The order is in effect until all violations are fixed and a new certificate of occupancy has been approved. There’s no word on when the hotel may reopen.
