Local church hosts packaging party for ‘Operation Christmas Child’ for kids in need

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Lifespring Community Church hosted a packaging party Saturday for Operation Christmas Child.

Volunteers gathered to pack 300 shoeboxes with toys, clothing, coloring books, and school supplies. These boxes will be sent to needy children in Jamaica and other countries experiencing war, poverty, and natural disasters.

“Jamaica was recently hit by the hurricane, so when boxes go to countries like that it really helps give them both the essentials, but really get to experience and understand that they’re loved, that people here love them, and that God loves them,” volunteer Diana Schaeffer said.

Schaeffer will be traveling to Jamaica next spring to deliver the boxes. She also helped organize Saturday’s packaging event.

Every year, Operation Christmas Child hosts a “National Collection Week” the third week in November where over 4,500 drop-off locations will open across the country.

This year, they will be collecting starting Monday, Nov. 17 through Monday, Nov. 24. To learn more and find a location near you, click here.

For those not able to go to a drop-off location, you can also build a shoebox online here.
