Jordan Health’s annual Front Porch Festival offers free health screenings and school supplies in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jordan Health held its annual Front Porch Festival on Saturday, offering free health screenings and school supplies with a focus on providing preschoolers and kindergartners access to required medical services ahead of the school year.

News10NBC reporter Declan Stablow spoke with parents at the event on Holland Street. They said it takes a load off their shoulders being able to speak with health professionals and pick up some free school supplies, especially as the cost of those supplies keeps rising.

People were also there to support the community after the violence last weekend, including multiple shootings that wounded almost a dozen people and killed two, including 14-year-old Zah’nia Barr.

“My heart goes out to the family and the young girl and anybody else over the last year that has been passed away too early. She was a student of mine. We just kind of support, we always support the community, and we just asked for everybody to do more,” Richard Johnson said.

Jordan Health has been doing this Front Porch Festival since 2016 as a way of sharing information about health care, education and the community. The Jordan Health Center is continuing to expand its services and will launch a mobile medical unit, hoping to have that running by Thanksgiving.

Organizers said having events like this are critical to show that Rochester is still a place where families can live and support each other.
