ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We are ending the weekend on a high note. Temperatures reached 5 to 10 degrees above average for much of Western New York on Sunday. Some thin, wispy high clouds will continue to move in across the region Sunday night and they will hopefully create a nice sunset. Tonight will be a bit milder with temperatures likely dropping into the low to mid 40s. Winds will remain light out of the southwest between 5 to 10 mph.

Monday will start out dry and pleasant with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low to mid 50s. A southwesterly wind should remain in place for the first half of the day with some limited sunshine. As a result, high temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 60s. However, a cold front will drop northwest to southeast across Western New York. Cloud coverage will increase towards the afternoon and evening hours. The general consensus between model runs shows that a majority of this front’s moisture will stay well upstate. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility that a very light passing shower could reach the surface later on Monday. As such, we will keep a 15% chance of rain on for Monday. Winds will start the day out of the southwest before veering to out of the northwest to end out the day. The morning will be a bit breezy, but winds should generally stick with speeds between 10 to 15 mph.

This moisture-starved cold front will bring a very brief cooldown as we head into Tuesday. High temperatures will likely top out in the low 50s across the lake plains and, perhaps, the upper-40s for higher elevations. Though we will see plenty of sunshine on Tuesday, a cold air mass aloft will limit our high temperatures. These cool temperatures will continue through Tuesday night. Clear skies and light winds will likely bring lows into the low 30s and may be supportive of some frost and freezing. A warming trend leads into the second half of the week. Temperatures should reach the low 60s again on Wednesday. Thursday’s high temperatures will likely be in the upper 60s, but a few spots may even see temperatures in the low 70s. Another weak cold front will drop through Thursday night into Friday, likely bringing temperatures back into the low-60s to end out the work week. Halloween, so far, still looks good!
