Irondequoit woman accused of funding terrorist group appears in federal court

 

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — An Irondequoit woman accused of funding a terrorist organization appeared in federal court Tuesday.

Catherine Washburn is charged with attempting to provide material support and resources, namely, currency. She’s accused of sending $30,000 in crypto-currency to terror group “Palestine Islamic Jihad.”

Washburn appeared in federal court Tuesday for a status hearing. In court, prosecutors said they plan on turning over evidence.

Washburn remains in custody. Her next appearance is scheduled for Friday, September 11.
