GPD: Middleport man receives six identity theft charges in an ongoing multi-county investigation

GREECE, N.Y. — Since early March, Greece Police Department detectives have been involved in an investigation into stolen and altered checks taken from a mailbox along Latta Road, according to police. Greece police say the finding is part of a larger multi-county investigation, resulting in an arrest of a suspect on Thursday.

The report says the investigation spanned over Monroe, Ontario, and Orleans counties.

On Thursday, police say Eric Gibbs of Middleport was arrested, 38, after investigators looked into multiple banks and surveillance footage.

Gibbs was charged with six separate cases of identity theft in the first degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and grand larceny in the fourth degree.

The investigation is ongoing and police say more charges are pending.

The report mentions that another person at the same address of Gibbs was arrested by the Niagara County Sherriff’s Office for unrelated warrants.
