ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul met privately this week with U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan. The meeting took place in Albany.
This discussion occurred as Border Patrol plans to establish a detention center inside the federal building on State Street in Rochester. Hochul said controversial detention centers were a topic of conversation.
“I also mentioned how we do not want to see any large scale detention centers or expansions of detention centers here in the state of New York, that’s created anxiety all the way from Orange County to Suffolk County to the North Country and Rochester. So I raised those issues, as well,” said Hochul.
Hochul said she gave Homan a list of New York students currently in federal detention she wants released. She declined to disclose Homan’s response during the meeting.
