ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The rain in the Rochester area this summer means that lawns have been growing quickly, and overgrown lawns are becoming an issue in some neighborhoods. A viewer wrote to News10NBC asking: “How can I report a neighborhood unmowed yard?”
This viewer sent News10NBC a photo of a yard on Ferris Street where grass was spilling onto the driveway and sidewalk. News10NBC’s Emily Putnam brought the question to the City of Rochester.
The city says you can report overgrown lawns by calling 311 or filing a report online. Click “See more services” on the right side of the screen, then scroll down and select “Clean up lot or street.” From there, you will be asked to sign into a One Stop ROC account using an email address.
Once you’re logged in, you can search for a street address on a map. Click on the property in question. If there are multiple units in the building, you’ll be asked to select a specific unit. Then, you can select from the following options:
- Front Yard
- Back Yard
- Driveway
- Whole Lot
- Sidewalk
- Between the Sidewalk and the Curb
- Street
Your options are not limited to overgrown grass. You can also select:
- Bushes
- Trash
- Furniture or Appliances
- Glass
- Car Parts
- Liquid (non-flammable)
- Syringes
- Brush and Branches
- Construction Debris
- Other
You can attach a picture and a description of the problem if you wish. However, if you want to report an overgrown lawn, the person who lives at that address may have to sign off on it before the city can come clear it out.
