Five people charged after chase ends in crash on Clifford Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Five young people face charges after Rochester Police say they led officers on a chase in a stolen car on Tuesday morning.

The chase ended when the car crashed into a parked car on Clifford Avenue near Ferncliffe Drive. News10NBC’s photojournalist saw dozens of officers swarming that area and blocking it off with crime scene tape around 2 a.m.

Officers say their investigation started early Monday morning, with the report of a robbery on Delmar Street off Otis Street. They learned that a 2013 Chevrolet Cruz was taken during the robbery. The next day, just after midnight, officers spotted a car that matched the description around Bay Street and Second Street.

Police say the car refused to pull over, leading to a chase that ended about half a mile away. Officers say they caught five people who ran from the car after the crash. RPD identified them as two 16-year-olds (a boy and a girl), two 18-year-olds (both men), and a 19-year-old man. All of them are charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

RPD says none of the five people were injured. Police are still investigating the robbery on Monday.
