ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A low-pressure system will be moving through the Tennessee Valley and eventually up the east coast, which will bring a wide swath of precipitation across the Ohio Valley, eastern Great Lakes, and New England during the next 24 hours. Western New York will be on the fringe of this precipitation with an area wide light snowfall beginning around 1:00 AM tonight. Accumulation for Rochester will be near two inches by morning with another one to two inches by midday Tuesday. This is not a big storm by Rochester standards, but the morning commute will be a challenge. As a result, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for later tonight and Tuesday.

This storm is moving rather quickly which should limit the total accumulation to two to four inches and slightly higher amounts in the higher elevations south of Rochester. Look for temperatures to fall into the mid to upper 20s tonight and rise only into the lower 30s on Tuesday. There will be additional snow showers Tuesday afternoon and night, but little if any additional accumulation is expected.

Looking ahead, this is a very active pattern with several bouts of very cold temperatures and occasional snowfall later this week.
