Drivers share how they are preparing for holiday travel

Millions hit the road for holiday travel as winter weather approaches

The News10NBC Team details breaking News, Traffic and Weather.

Millions of travelers are preparing to hit the road as Thanksgiving approaches.

Concerns about driving conditions, especially at night and with potential ice on the road, are on the minds of many.

“I got my snow tires on last week, so that was good,” Ricky Panipinto said. “It’s probably too late for anyone to get those tires on if they haven’t got them on, but I definitely think that that helps a lot with the sliding and everything like that.”

AAA projected that at least 73 million people would travel by car, with Wednesday being the busiest day.

“I am a little bit concerned, so when we’re going back down home, it’s really important that we’re cautious about the ice,” Bella Lang said. And usually we’re worried about deer also, especially now that it’s getting so dark out.”

Ricky and Bella, who are both driving around an hour to their Thanksgiving destination, said they’re prepared for their trips. Bella said she’s lucky to drive a vehicle with four-wheel drive. Ricky said he’s used to driving in the snow and knows to drive slowly and give himself plenty of time.

Filling up the gas tank and ensuring there is enough air in the tires before starting a trip also helps. AAA projected that more than 81 million people would travel at least 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving holiday.
